February is Children’s Dental Health Month and a wonderful time for parents to review child dental recommendations and best practices. Many of our patients here at Stone Dental Group are families, and we are proud to serve parents and children as they learn how to keep their teeth healthy and strong. During check-ups, we have the chance to speak candidly with parents and address their concerns or questions about their child’s dental health. Here is a sneak peek into those conversations, as we work to address concerns with positive and realistic solutions.
Kids can be awfully strong-willed, can’t they? It is common for children to resist brushing their teeth, and while it can seem like a fight every time, it is important that parents stand their ground.
It is recommended that kids (and adults) brush their teeth for two minutes at least twice per day. Educate your child on the importance of healthy brushing, and allow them to choose when they will brush their teeth – before you get dressed or after? – to return some control of the situation to their hands.
Children can get cavities in their baby teeth. If your child has cavities already, take a deep breath and look at it as a way to reevaluate healthy dental practices. Some kids are more prone to cavities due to enamel issues with their baby teeth. In these cases especially, encourage your child to brush more often and to drink plenty of water (not soda or juice) throughout their day.
Most kiddos are wary of any doctor's experience, including the dentist. However, at Stone Dental Group, we know that positive experiences lead to more confident kids. Therefore, we work tirelessly to assure that kids who visit us have a calm and pleasant experience. Our team members are friendly and comforting. We work to make our procedures quick and painless. We want our child patients to enjoy visiting us a few times per year during check-ups!
Child dental health begins at home, so be sure you are leading by example with your own dental habits. We would love to meet you and your family; give us a call to set up your first appointment.
