According to the Centers for Disease Control, there are approximately 40,000 new cases of oral cancer diagnosed each year and nearly 9,000 deaths. While the five-year survival rate for oral cancers is about 59%, it is still a serious disease that can cause extensive pain and require invasive treatment or procedures.

Early detection, as with most cancers, is the key to survival for oral cancer. The sooner the cancer is detected, the quicker a treatment plan can be developed. A major factor in early detection is the semi-annual check-up at your dental office.
